The facility, set up within 14 weeks of round-the-clock construction, is developed by a Temasek-led Singapore consortium that includes The Ascott, Changi Airport Group, Sheares Healthcare Group, SingEx-Sphere Holdings and Surbana Jurong. The launch is part of the Connect@Singapore initiative announced on Dec 15, as part of Singapore’s efforts to reopen its borders in a controlled and safe manner. Under the scheme, select business, official and high economic value travellers would be able to enter the city-state for a period of up to 14 days.
The pilot purpose-built accommodation to facilitate safe meetings between business travellers from across the globe is being developed by a local consortium led by Singapore-headquartered global investment company Temasek and includes The Ascott Limited, Changi Airport Group, Sheares Healthcare Group, SingEx-Sphere Holdings and Surbana Jurong. Aloysius Arlando, chief executive, venues of SingEx-Sphere, told TTGmice, demand is expected to come from senior official meetings, MNC corporate meetings, business negotiations, document signing, legal consultations and wealth advisory service companies. He said Singapore-based heads who have not met critical overseas staff face-to-face in a year, one-on-one or in a “board meeting environment” would be potential customers.
The Connect@Changi project is developed by a Singapore consortium, led by Temasek and includes The Ascott Limited, Changi Airport Group, Sheares Healthcare Group, SingEx-Sphere Holdings and Surbana Jurong. Connect@Changi is launching with 150 guest rooms and 40 meeting rooms that can accommodate a range of meeting sizes, from four to 22 attendees, Temasek said in a statement Feb. 18. This will expand to around 660 guest rooms and 170 meeting rooms, when the initial phase of the project is completed in May, and when fully completed later this year, the facility will have the potential capacity to host some 1,300 business travelers at any one time, it said.
