JTC’s $570m Bulim Square, ready by end-2024, will house advanced manufacturing tenants
There are now more than 100 players in the value chain, with JTC attracting the likes of Hyundai Motor Group and a cluster of advanced manufacturing companies, including Shimano, Bosch Rexroth, Sodick, Makino and DMG Mori. These companies, because of their proximity to one another, will create synergies that will strengthen the links between them and allow them to make the most of being part of the ecosystem. Mr Tan welcomed other recent entrants, such as the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster, Entegris, Sulzer Singapore and Element Materials Technology.

Limited charging points, rules over sales hamper electric vehicle adoption in Singapore
South Korean vehicle manufacturer Hyundai Motor’s fast-charging Ioniq 5 electric sport utility vehicle is among the new cars slated to be produced this quarter at the company’s Singapore plant. The Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Jurong is set to produce 30,000 vehicles a year by 2025. The newly unveiled Ioniq 6 and new Kona Electric will also be assembled there. For the local market, the company has modified the motor power of the battery EV to meet the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) criteria for Category A vehicles. It also considered the current limitations in charging infrastructure.

In an industry first, Hyundai Motor Company, Komoco Motors, and ITE Singapore have partnered together to train students in EV technology through internships at Hyundai Motor and Komoco Motors. Signed on September 20 2022, the partnership is in support of the Singapore Green Plan 2030 and will see up to 10 ITE students granted internships annually at Hyundai Motor and Komoco Motors. These internships will be at Hyundai Motor and Komoco Motors, allowing students to acquire technical skills and knowledge in sustainable mobility and advanced automotive technologies.

Car-sharing firm GetGo to add 50 S'pore-made electric vehicles to its fleet in 2023
Local car-sharing outfit GetGo will add around 50 Hyundai electric vehicles (EVs) that are made in Singapore to its fleet next year. The announcement was made on Thursday (May 26) at an event with its automotive partner, Hyundai Motor Innovation Centre in Singapore (HMGICS). Launched in 2021, GetGo said it has a fleet of more than 1,400 vehicles spread across 1,300 locations in Singapore. The company aims to grow the fleet to 2,500 vehicles by the end of this year and 10,000 vehicles by 2030.

GetGo begins using Hyundai Ioniq 5 EVs in Singapore
To support this, GetGo has signed Memorandums-of-Understandings with Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Singapore (HMGICS) and CDG Engie at Jurong Spring Community Centre, where the Ioniq 5 was also unveiled. GetGo’s partnership with HMGICS will see at least 50 locally-produced Ioniq 5s to their fleet next year. These will be produced in the Jurong Innovation District. The two entities are also exploring methods of integrating GetGo’s service within Hyundai’s ecosystem.
